Meet Our Founder
Rachel DiPaolo grew up surrounded by agriculture, in a family whose home cooked meals were a nightly occasion. With chefs and grocers on both sides of the family tree, food was the common thread.
At eight years old, adorned in her grandmother’s lipstick and loafers, Rachel first began to see food as more than just ingredients on a shelf. Enlisted to help her grandmother with her personal shopping business (she was ahead of her time), Rachel perused the aisles of the local supermarkets. While learning about the unique items on each buyer’s list and how to pick the best fruits and vegetables, she began to sense the personal nature of food and its ability to comfort.
As a teen, in the kitchen that now houses Debonair Events, Rachel supported another small female-led business, her mother’s. Willow Camp Catering afforded a firsthand opportunity to see a commercial kitchen at work; endless cycles of hand-prepped ingredients, the subtle art of client relations, and again, the gravitational and unifying importance of whole, seasonal foods.
While early chapters instilled values and a seasoned ability to put together magical events, it is Rachel’s passion for food and community that truly sets her apart.
As an avid traveler (shamelessly in service of trying new foods), Rachel seeks out what is new to her and familiar to others. With a disarming smile and a keen eye for the little details of each dish, her events are permeated with a feeling of ease. When heading home after a late event, she usually still feels drawn to walk straight into her own kitchen to whip up something warm and homemade for her and her kids. While being featured in the SF Gate, the Marin Dish, and the Marin Independent Journal, she’d rather talk about her farm-to-table methodology and latest trip out to the Bolinas docks to source fish.
Debonair Events is a continuation of Rachel’s family legacy in the kitchen and acts as a catalyst for growth within her beloved coastal community of West Marin.
